Shepperton CC v Binfield Cricket Club Friendly XI on Sun 30 Apr 2017 at 1.00pm
Binfield Cricket Club Lost by 33 runs

Match report A lovely day of cricket despite two massive weather systems hitting land from the south. Chris Jones captained his first match losing the the toss to Shepperton who decided to have a bat first.

Binfield started off very well getting two very quick wickets by Bullett, the resident Binfield Kiwi, who was hitting a very grassy patch on a length. He took the wickets of Cranley and Jai. Butler supported the Kiwi from the other end not letting Shepperton get many runs.

The first change came quickly for both opening bowlers. Hesketh taking over from Butler bowled a straight 8 over spell that choked the life of the Shepperton innings only going for 25 runs. Guest took over from Bullett with an initial 4 over spell taking a wicket of the 2nd opening batsman.

Praskash took over from Guest, bowling some devilish quick spin on the grassy patch, which kept the batsman guessing and in all sorts of trouble. Unfortunately for his 4 overs he got no wickets but did not let the batsmen get anymore than 15 runs from him. Hesketh finishing his 8 over spell got the plumb LBW wicket of Fitz.

Vice-captain Stephen Andrews took over from Praskash's bowling end getting the wicket of Bowman in a handy 4 over spell.

Scott Butler came on for his last spell getting the wicket of Gough who tried to cut the ball between Point and Gully, but unfortunately for him Prakash has rockets for legs and launched to take an amazing catch.

At the 30 over point Binfield had reduced Shepperton to 112 runs only. However, Shepperton in the form of Mason and Chinn had other ideas for the last 10 overs of the innings, hitting 98 runs to end the innings on 210 runs from 40 overs.

Opening up the batting Devarakonda and York were faced with some brisk and accurate attack bowling from both Gough and Hayes. Frustrating the opening bowlers, who spent all their overs looking for a wicket, it was only at the end of Hayes spell that he eventually got York out clean bowled for 7.

Whilst Binfield for the most part saw the two attack bowlers off, they were struggling for runs in the first 15 overs, only having scored a total of 33. Sackely who replaced York, finally started putting runs on the board now that Gough and Hayes were gone but could not find support from another batsman.

Fux took Devarakonda's wicket in his 2nd over ending his innings on 17. Choumal succumbbed quickly to Fux going for just 1 run in the following over and then in his 5th over taking Prakash's wicket who only managed a score of 2.

Jones then entered to support Sackley but number 3 batsman's fight eventually ended on 30 runs when a change of bowler came on in the form of Mason. Sackely hitting the ball in the air and getting caught by Fux.

Jones was joined by Butler and Binfield were only 75 for 5. After taking a few overs to get their eye in, they both began to find the boundary often and racking up a partnership of 45. Butler eventually being dispatched for 28 by Chinn.

Enter the Bullett who had just bowled the best figures in Shepperton's innings. Binfield were on 127 for 6, needing 84 runs from 6 overs. During his innings, Bullett hit 6 fours in the hope of chasing down the big ask, but was let down in the middle of it by the taking of the Jones wicket ending their partnership on 27.

Binfield were now 147-7 after 37 overs needing a mammoth 64 from the last 3 overs. You cannot blame Bullett for not having hope as he carried on hitting his boundaries. After the quick wicket of Hesketh (scoring 6 runs) Stephen Andrews came on but there were simply not enough overs left to catch the 211 target. Binfield finally ended their innings only getting 177 runs, short by 34. Bullett top scored out of the Binfield team getting 31 runs.
