Founded in 1865
Binfield Cricket Club was founded in 1865 and has been a central part of village life in Binfield for over 150 years.
From its earliest days, the club provided a place where local residents could come together to enjoy competitive sport,
socialise and build lasting friendships.
In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, matchdays were major community events, with players, families and
supporters gathering around the ground to follow the fortunes of the home side and enjoy the social atmosphere that
has always surrounded the club.
Growth through the decades
As organised league cricket developed across Berkshire and the surrounding counties, Binfield Cricket Club evolved
from a purely village-based side into a competitive club playing regular fixtures against opposition from a wide area.
The club steadily expanded its playing base, introducing additional senior sides to allow more members to play
competitive cricket and ensuring that opportunities were available for players of different abilities and experience.
A modern, inclusive club
Today, Binfield Cricket Club supports one of the largest and most diverse playing programmes in the local area.
The club fields:
- Five Saturday teams competing in the Thames Valley League, providing competitive cricket across multiple divisions.
- Two midweek teams playing in the Bracknell Midweek League, offering fast-paced evening cricket during the summer.
- One active and social Sunday XI side, playing friendly fixtures and offering relaxed, community-focused cricket.
- Two women’s hard-ball teams, competing in structured and competitive fixtures.
- A women’s softball team, providing an accessible and social pathway into the game.
- Junior teams for boys and girls from Under-9s through to Under-19s, forming the foundation of the club’s future.
This broad structure ensures that players of all ages and backgrounds can find the right level of cricket at Binfield,
whether they are discovering the game for the first time or playing regular league cricket each weekend.
Developing the next generation
The junior section has become a vital part of the club’s identity. Structured coaching, regular fixtures and clear
development pathways allow young players to progress confidently through the age groups.
Many junior players now move directly into adult cricket at the club, strengthening the Saturday and midweek sides
and maintaining a strong connection between the club’s youth and senior sections.
Community and club life
Binfield Cricket Club has always been about more than results and league tables. The club prides itself on being a
welcoming, family-friendly environment where players, volunteers and supporters all play a part in the club’s success.
Social events, junior activities and matchday gatherings continue to reinforce the strong community spirit that has
defined the club since its earliest days.
Looking to the future
With five Saturday league sides, thriving midweek cricket, an active Sunday XI, a growing women’s section and a strong
junior programme from Under-9s to Under-19s, Binfield Cricket Club is well positioned to continue building on its proud heritage.
The club remains committed to developing players, supporting volunteers and providing high-quality cricket
opportunities for the local community for many years to come.
