A century against you is a fearsome thing; two hundred and twenty-seven to chase in reply, more fearsome still. Binfield's 3rd XI looked at both, and simply got on with the job.

Adam Davidson was the architect of West Reading's 227, a fine hundred that might, on another afternoon, have been the whole story. That it was not owes a good deal to Ollie Cummings, who kept plucking out the other end and finished with the best of the Binfield figures as the visitors were held to a total that felt, in the end, gettable.

Then came the reply, and what a composed thing it was. Jack Green (50) and Andy Mills (49) laid the platform, Will Kings pressed on with 33, and Dan Humphrey saw it home unbeaten on 54. Three wickets down, two hundred and thirty-one on the board, and a target of that size made to look almost gentle.

To chase 228 and lose only three wickets is the mark of a side batting with real assurance. Splendidly done.
