Binfield Cricket Club's 5th XI posted 243 for 6 and defended it with 73 runs to spare away at Lacey Green CC on Saturday 4 July in Thames Valley Cricket League Division 9D, Evie Folwell's unbeaten 61 the platform for the total before Peter Henly and Kamal Gupta, three wickets apiece, bowled the home side out for 170.

Evie Folwell did not so much build an innings as keep it company from No. 3 to the close. After Binfield won the toss and chose to bat, she made an unbeaten 61 and outlasted James Bennett, Paul Edgington, Andy Bryant and Kamal Gupta, with Steve Jeffery's 42 having supplied the early weight. It was patient ownership of an innings that kept finding another useful pair of hands.

Lacey Green's attack had its moments. Akaash Khan won both of his wickets lbw, removing Jeffery and Bennett, while Tahir Mehmood bowled Edgington for 36 and Bryant for 32. Bryant's 32 made it a runs-and-gloves day for Binfield's wicketkeeper, and Folwell remained untouched as the 5th XI closed on 243 for 6.

Captain Matthew Potter set the terms of the reply with 8-2-17-2, bowling James Whipp and having Naib Khan caught by Jeffery. Lacey Green responded boldly through Tom Oakford's 45, ended by Archie Orr's run-out, and Will Carter's 67. Carter was the best batter in the chase, but he was not carrying the resistance alone, and Kamal Gupta eventually bowled him.

Peter Henly took 3 for 45, while Gupta's 3 for 16 included Carter and helped limit Lacey Green to 170 all out in 34.1 overs. That made the winning margin 73 runs. Folwell carried the innings, Potter governed the reply, and Gupta and Henly signed the scorebook - four distinct contributions to a most satisfying away victory.
