Binfield Cricket Club's 4th XI recorded another six-wicket victory away at Knowl Hill CC on Saturday 4 July, Chris White's 4 for 18 helping bowl the home side out for 95 in Thames Valley Cricket League Division 8B, before Anthony Goff's 35 led the successful chase.

Four wickets for two runs - now there is a way to make 96 look mischievous. Jack Green's 26 and Anthony Goff's 35 had taken Binfield to 61 without loss when Nick Harrison had them both caught. Adam Brookman then struck twice at the other end of the card, with Daniel Bavington completing the stumping of Tim Vines and catching Harry Hodson, and suddenly 61 for 0 had become 63 for 4.

That little commotion followed Knowl Hill's compact first innings. The home side won the toss and chose to bat, but Bill Moffat took 2 for 29, Matt Hayman 2 for 27 and Nathan Warwick 2 for 17, Warwick removing Max Beeson caught and bowled. Chris White's brief, busy 4.2 overs brought 4 for 18, including John Randall bowled and Adam Brookman lbw, while Bavington's unbeaten 23 was Knowl Hill's most durable resistance in 95 all out from 24.2 overs.

The extras column supplied a small but telling comedy. Knowl Hill received only five extras in their innings; Binfield received 19 in the reply, 16 of them wides. Those gifts did not erase the four-for-two cluster, but they made the target rather less prickly, and Tony Smith's unbeaten 15 restored order alongside Carter Daines.

Smith and Daines remained there as Binfield reached 97 for 4 and won by six wickets. Bavington had been Knowl Hill's best batter and then had a stumping and a catch in the only passage that threatened to turn the chase, an admirable day's work in defeat. Six wickets was the final margin, but four wickets for two runs ensured nobody was allowed to call it a stroll.
