Hampton Hill 4th XI v Binfield Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at TBC on Whatsapp
Binfield Cricket Club Won By 1 Run

Match report Binfield 4s travelled to play a youthful Hampton Hill 4s in their inaugural match, and what a match it was! A tense encounter going down to the final ball of the innings.

Binfield batted first and were faced with vicious uneven bounce from the wicket, especially from K Fitzpatrick who captured the first wicket with a ball that jumped up at opener Izzy Carson.

Tony Hesketh came in for a quick-fire 10 while opener Simon York anchored the Binfield innings with a solid 31.

Youngster Rahul Gupta was in at 5 and played some wonderful shots all round the ground for a senior team career-high of 32.

James Bennett came in at 6 for a 19-run innings which contained some powerful cover drives, however the promising start was cut short by a bad run call (not naming names!).
Thankfully Kamal Gupta was on hand to get the Binfield 4s first ever half-century and some quick running with Scott Butler at the end of the innings pushed the total to a respectable 181 from 35 overs.

After tea, Hampton Hill opened their innings with captain Dave Mackinley and young Dexter.
Bennett and Butler opening the bowling for Binfield.
Scott Butler captured the first wicket of Dexter early on, some threatening deliveries going past the edge of the bat was followed by a full delivery capturing Dexter plum LBW.

Mackinley and Oliver then put on a good partnership with some good shots played by both to get 48 and 40 respectively.

A poor lbw decision was given against Mackinley towards the end of his innings, however Hawkeye (Binfield skipper Rob Carson!) overturned the decision as he was adjudged to have inside-edged on to his pads. A respectful decision in a game that was played in the correct spirit.

It was looking a bit bleak for Binfield until Kamal Gupta came in to the attack to get club career-best figures of 4-13 to get rid of bats 1, 3, 4 and 5 to open up a potential win for the side.

Kamal’s son, Rahul, bowled some tight overs and between them managed to restrict the run-rate.
Father and son combined to get rid of Hampton’s number 6 with a comfortable catch from senior Gupta at mid-off.

A good catch in the slips by Simon York from the bowling of Jude Robinson had the Hampton 7 and their innings on the ropes, especially once Harris had cleaned up the 8’s stumps as he tried to whip one in to the on-side off a straight delivery.

However, some quick runs from J Fitzpatrick (28) at 9 brought Hampton back in to contention.
Fortunately for Binfield he mistimed a hoik to the boundary which spooned high to Scott Butler at cover who caught on the run. Harris finishing with his best figures of 2-21.

With the final two in, Izzy Carson (making her senior team debut) was brought on to finish off the bowling.
Hampton only needed 8 from the final over, however Izzy did not give in to pressure and delivered a fantastic over.
To the final ball! Hampton needed 1 to tie and 2 to win, Izzy stepped up and delivered a full length delivery that the batsman could only knock back to the bowler who quickly picked up and whipped off the bails to leave K Fitzpatrick stranded half-way down the wicket.

A fantastic one run win for the first-ever Binfield 4th XI!

Overall a great performance, especially in the field, with some young players showing some great promise for the future.

Hampton Hill were great hosts and hope to see them again in another fixture soon!
