Binfield Cricket Club 1st XI v The MCC on Sun 02 Jul 2017 at 11.00am
Binfield Cricket Club Won By 3 Wickets

Match report On a glorious sunny day in front of a good crowd Binfield took on The MCC in their Bi-annual fixture, having won the fixture in 2015 Binfield knew they would be up against it this time around.
The toss was won by Binfield captain Mike Staves who invited The MCC to have bat. Jackson and Vines took the new ball for the home side and Millar and Hudson opened the batting for the visitors.
On a flat excellent batting track the MCC openers took the attack to the Binfield bowlers and with the combination of powerful hitting and exquisite stroke making the score board was rattling along and after 10 overs the score was on 86. It took until the 14th over until Binfield got themselves on the board when Hudson was caught by Allan-Canty off the bowling of Vines for a well made 50. Green came to the wicket and he and Millar continued to push the score along.
The introduction of spin from both ends slowed the scoring rate down, and in the space of 2 overs brought the home side 2 more wickets, with Goddard bowling both Green (18) and Millar, but only after Millar had brought up his century off just 81 balls!
Lunch was taken after 34 overs with The MCC poised on 205 – 3 and what a lunch it was, enjoyed by all!
The afternoon session started and once again the run rate was upped, this however brought a couple of wickets for the Home side, with Jackson and M Carson picking up a wicket each.
After 46 overs, The MCC declared their innings on a very respectable 296 for 5. A quick 10 minute turn around and the run chase was on!
Ennis and Morgan strode out to the middle, and they both got off to good starts putting the bad balls away and scoring freely, Morgan was however dismissed by Bartlett having been sharply caught in the gully by Lack. Ennis followed shortly being caught at mid-on having not quite found the middle of the bat.
This brought Mike Carson out to join his brother Steve in the middle and these two with a mixture of good running and powerful shot making took the home side through to tea on 128 – 2 after 22 overs.
S Carson fell not long after tea for an excellent 58. M Carson followed suit and brought his own half century up but was soon to head back to the pavilion having been caught for a fine 52. Reid continued the good work and took the attack to the MCC bowlers brought up his 50, including three huge sixes onto the pavilion roof!
Staves and Allan-Canty both got in but were both back in the pavilion leaving the home side on 259 - 7
Entering the last 5 overs, 34 runs were needed with just 3 wickets in hand and 2 new batters at the crease. Higginson and Jackson, pushed the fielders for every run and with the odd lusty blow to game entered the last over with Binfield needing 10 runs to win!
A single followed by a dot ball had the crowd on the edge of their seats and the visitors looking like slight favourites….
Jackson then dispatched the ball to the long off boundary to get his side back into it, and with Higginson sprinting back for 2s for the next two balls it all came down to the last ball of the match, the scores tied, the field all in on the single, Jackson whipped the ball through square leg and to the rope and sent the home fans in to raptures!
A great end to a great game, played in Great Spirit! Thank you to The MCC for such a good game and safe to say a good day was had by all involved!
We look forward to hosting them again in 2019!
