Those runs have been gathered across 344 appearances, which is itself thirteenth in the club's entire recorded history, and decorated with three hundreds, thirty-three fifties and a highest score of 122 not out. Add 136 catches and four stumpings and a tidy 47 wickets, and one begins to suspect Dan has simply been fielding, batting and keeping wicket for the best part of a small eternity. Six hundred of those runs have come in 2026 alone, so the appetite, my dear old things, is plainly undimmed.

Then comes Matt Hayman, whose 400th maiden over is only the headline of a quite remarkable bowling life. Four hundred and one maidens place him fourth among 375 recorded Binfield bowlers, but look one column across: 385 wickets rank eighth in the club's entire history, taken at an average of 16.04 and a miserly economy of 3.39 across 1,822 overs, with a best of 8 for 9 and ten five-wicket hauls. Four hundred overs in which not a single run was permitted to escape is the work of a bowler who has made meanness into an art form. Bat against him at your peril; the pigeons on the square have long since learned to keep a respectful distance.

The all-time list has arranged a particularly pleasing symmetry for Thomas Williams and Zoë Docherty, who stand shoulder to shoulder among Binfield's wicket-takers. Thomas's 50th maiden is the landmark, but his 165 wickets rank twenty-eighth of 475 recorded bowlers, with a best of 5 for 18, three five-wicket hauls and a batting century for good measure. Immediately below him, twenty-ninth on that same list, is Zoë Docherty, whose 150th appearance this season sits atop 159 wickets, 77 maidens and a best of 5 for 15. Two neighbouring places in one table, two serious bowling records and a milestone apiece; a statistician could hardly set the tea things down more neatly.

Tony Smith has passed a thousand career runs and rather emphatically so. His 1,067 runs place him ninety-sixth among those 665 recorded run-scorers, with four fifties and a highest score of 76 not out, but the truly striking figure is 421: the runs he has scored in 2026 alone, roughly two in every five of his entire career total. A first thousand is a fine thing; a first thousand arriving at this gallop is a rather better story.

And so to a trio of first five hundreds, each with its own flourish. Harry D'Amaro-Field has reached 553 runs, every one of them recorded in 2026, at an average of 36.87 which is the handsomest in this whole company; there are 19 catches and four stumpings besides. Keegan Barretto's five hundred has become 523, adorned with three fifties and a highest score of 94, which is one thumping blow short of a maiden hundred and will surely not stay unfinished for long. Rakesh Sugumar completes the set on 506, though his fuller tale is told with the ball: 74 wickets, sixty-fifth in club history, with a best of 5 for 11. Three first five hundreds, three quite different cricketers, and one honours board that groans most happily under the weight. Raise a cup to every one of them, permit a passing bus its respectful toot, and cut the cake with a generous hand.
