Binfield Cricket Club's 2nd XI won by nine wickets at home on Saturday 25 July 2026, Tom Nower (5-37) and Rob Pigden (5-70) bowling unchanged through all thirty overs to dismiss Falkland CC, Berks 2nd XI for 109 in a Thames Valley Cricket League (TVCL) Division 3A fixture, before Harry Maxfield's unbeaten 64 saw the chase home inside nineteen overs.

Well I never - a whole innings, thirty overs, ten wickets, and only two bowlers required. Binfield's 2nd XI won the toss, had a look at the pitch and put Falkland in, and Tom Nower and Rob Pigden then proceeded to bowl unchanged from the first ball to the last, sharing every single wicket between them. You do not see that very often, and it is the sort of line on a scorecard that a club remembers for a good while.

Nower's was the miserly end. Fifteen overs, six maidens, thirty-seven runs, five wickets - an economy of under two and a half an over, which in a thirty-over innings is very nearly bowling a side out for free. Pigden, at the other end, was the one who went searching: fifteen overs, seventy runs, and five wickets of his own, including the stumping that removed Jack Rider just as the Falkland innings was beginning to look respectable.

And a word here for Harry Field behind the stumps, who took four catches and two stumpings. Six dismissals in an innings is a quite outstanding afternoon's work by any measure, and it is a rare keeper who gets to be the third name on so many lines of a scorecard.

Falkland were never allowed to settle. Sam Croft went in the second over, and though Rider (30 from 51) and John Woodbridge put on 37 for the second wicket, the loss of Rider at 55 for 3 was followed three balls later by Soorya Anbumurasoli, and that was the shape of things. Leo Clark's watchful 23 and Duncan Johnson's run-a-ball 13 offered resistance, but from 93 for 6 the last four wickets produced only sixteen runs and the innings closed on 109 in the final over of the allocation.

The reply was almost impolite in its ease. Grant Celliers and Harry Maxfield put on 77 for the first wicket, and by the time Celliers fell for a well-made 34 the thing was long since settled. Maxfield finished unbeaten on 64 from 54 balls with a dozen fours - three-quarters of his runs in boundaries - and with Mikey Allan-Canty keeping him company on 12, Binfield were home with nine wickets standing and more than eleven overs of the thirty unused.

Extras were three apiece, which tells you it was a well-disciplined afternoon on both sides. Twenty-six points banked, fifth place in Division 3A, and Falkland - who will have far happier Saturdays - can at least console themselves that they were undone by two men bowling about as well as two men can. First-rate stuff.
