Binfield Cricket Club Midweek XI v Finchampstead on Tue 26 May 2009 at 6.00pm
Binfield Cricket Club Won By 2 Wkts

Match report What a game!!

Having won the toss Finchampstead decided that they would have a bat, so Binfield took to the field with only 8 men due to some unforseen traffic and kit issues!.
The Finchampstead openers Bell (71) and Alexander (43) both started briskly finding the many gaps in the field. By the start of the 3rd over Binfield had 11 men in the field so it was game on! However with a combination of big hitting and very good running between the wickets, Finchampstead scored 197 - 6 off the alloted 16 overs. M Carson the pick of the Binfield bowlers with 3-37 and J Browning the pick of the fielders taking 3 catches.

The run chase started.....

Knowing the required run rate was just over 12 a good start to the innings was vital...12 scored off the first, good start! M Carson (86) decided that he would accelerate the run rate and proceeded to smash ball after ball out of the ground, during this onslaught the wicket of opener R Higginson was taken and Carson was joined in the middle by S Ennis (36). A partnership of 75 in just 6 overs followed with both batsmen dispatching the bowling to all parts.

This partnership was ended by Morris (5-43) who removed S Ennis caught at mid-wicket. A couple of quick wickets followed to leave to the run chase very finely balanced, however the required rate was now down to a run-a-ball and with with the fielders out the singles were gratefully taken, this mixed in with some lusty blows from the middle order confindence was fairly high.

With the loss of more wickets the win looked more and more unlikely. So down to the last 2 overs, 15 required, 2 wickets in hand. A good tight over from Huggan left 12 needed from the last 8 ball over.

J Browning and J Bartlett at the middle for Binfield.....with 3 singles taken of the first 4 balls, it was a good time for a boundary! Two 2's and a single taken of the next 3 deliveries left 4 to win of the final ball!!

J Browning on strike.......he looked around......took guard.......stepped back.......and whipped the ball towads the square leg boundary......the fielder lined himself up to take the catch, jumped up and stretched out his arms......however the ball just had enough power and elevation to clip his fingers and drop over the line for a 6!

What a game! Lets hope the return fixture is just as good!
