Binfield took full advantage of Winchmore Hill being without many regular players to record a comprehensive victory and take over the lead of the Chilterns League 1st Division. Binfield stand-in captain, Paul Edgington, won the toss and elected to bat first on a hot afternoon in the Buckinghamshire countryside but the loss of early wickets against good bowling - particularly from Mark Higginbotham saw Binfield reach 80 for 4 after 20 overs. Jason Lynch looked particularly impressive until he was dismissed for 17 to Higginbotham's first delivery. The loss of the fourth wicket brought together Matt Humphrey and Edgington and this pair repaired the earlier damage putting on 98 for the fifth wicket in 15 overs before Edgington was caught for a fine 66. Humphrey was joined by Adam Carson and this pair added further runs before Humphrey was dismissed for 68. Carson then took the onslaught to the home attack flaying 50 in just 31 balls before he too was caught. Binfield's innings closed on 269 for 8 from their full allocation of 52 overs.
In reply, the home team's innings ended in a disappointing 58 all out due to the combined effect of missing key players and having toiled in the field. Binfield's opening spin bowlers Tony Boad and Michael Carson sharing the wickets with Boad taking 5 for 20 and Carson 4 for 35. With storm clouds gathering, skipper Edgington stumped Winchmore Hill's final batsman to ensure Binfield secured their well deserved victory just as the heavens opened.
