Match report Binfield’s inability to take the last wicket again.......

Having won the toss the Binfield skipper had no hesitation in batting first on a typical bouncy, quick Binfield wicket. With the Carson brothers reunited at the top of the order the crowds were hoping for a substantial opening partnership however with Michael being dismissed in the 5th over those hopes were dashed..
This brought Binfield s No.3 to the crease and despite coming off the back of a solid 74 during the week Marshall never got going and was heading back to hut with only 8 to his name, worse was to follow as the very next ball as Humphrey was dismissed being caught at mid on, off what can only be described as the 'worse long hop ever bowled in cricket' (his words!)
At 49 - 3 things weren't looking great, but whilst wickets were falling at one end Steve Carson went about setting a solid base from where the middle order could counter attack from. Edgington and Carson put on 56 for the 4th wicket before the former was dismissed LBW by the left arm spin? of Anderson. Hayman was next man in as well as being the next man out! Without troubling the scorers as he was adjudged LBW.
This brought the experienced Boad to the crease, as he and Caron went about the business comfortably. Carson was the next man out for a fine 72, unluckily caught at fine leg after smashing away a short pitch delivery. The Binfield lower order were starting to tick now....
This brought Sykes out to the wicket and he proceeded to larrup the ball to all parts for an excellent 61 including 3 sixes and 7 fours.
Despite losing a couple more wickets in the search for quick runs at the end Binfield’s Innings closed on 236 - 8 ,with Boad remaining unbeaten on 40*.
************************************************************
With Binfield deciding to start with the 'old' ball spinners Boad and M Carson set about trying to nick a couple of wickets early and all started well as Boad had A Pearce caught at Mid Off after tempting him hit over the top from a delivery that wasn’t there for it. With no more wickets forthcoming, the new ball was taken.......
Hayman and Sykes with the honours, after a few early scares the Winchmore Hill pair of Price and Dudderidge started to score more and more comfortably. Dudderidge bringing up his half century in good time. However unable to keep Sykes out of the game for too long he produced arguably the ball of the day (again his words!!) as he nipped one back up the slope which clattered into Dudderidge's off stump as he was playing a excellent looking leave!
Hayman then picked up his first wicket removing the No 4 LBW for 1. A game of cricket cat and mouse the proceeded for the 25 overs or so as both teams thought they were in line for a win, Binfield picking wickets up fairly regularly whilst Winchmore Hill were well up with the required rate if not ahead at times. Boad was the main wicket taker for Binfield as he finished with figures of 13-0-61-4.
So down to the last couple of overs, with the No 9 being dismissed by Hayman 15-7-26-2 this brought the last man in for Winchmore Hill the final pair had 10 balls to survive...
Despite a couple of scares including the last ball dropping agonisingly short of a Binfield hand at short leg following a test match style bat/pad, a draw was the final result. A good game played in good spirit......

On to Great Kingshill away next week as BCC look to get their first win of the season.....
