Match report Game Week 2 meant a rare home game for the 2s having played all of pre season and 1st league game away from home.

The weather was glorious and the ground a picture, as we welcomed Bagshot 2s for a 45 Over win/lose game.

The 100% loss record at the toss for the Binfield captain continued and resulted in the opposition winning and unsurprisingly they elected to bat. The Binfield side relatively happy to be chasing on a true , good paced track that offered very little margin of error to the bowlers.

Joe Sculley returning to the 2nd XI side after 2 years absent with knee injuries and operations took the 1st over with Kali-Ann Docherty the 2nd. Kali-Ann removed the opening bat caught behind with her 1st delivery as the home side smelt blood. However the Bagshot pair of Funnell and Rowlett batted sensibly and at drinks had moved the score onto 117-1 from 23 overs

Refreshed with some excellent strength squash and fruittellas the home team went back into the field for the last 22 overs knowing a strong 2nd half display was required. The spin of Rahul Gupta and Pete Henly slowed the run rate and as the batters looked to up the rate the breakthrough was made with both set batters removed in the space of 4 balls, 1 apiece for the spinners. A couple more quick wickets had slowed the rate even more. Dawson with few lusty blows in the last couple of overs took Bagshot to 227-5 off 45. Both sides happy with their efforts.

Binfield knowing they would need a good batting performance to see them home, but happy as they could and probably should of been chasing another 30 or 40 runs if not for the 2nd half performance with the ball and in the field.

Steve Jeffery and Mike Allan-Canty got the innings underway, and between them punished anything off target as the home side moved onto 81 before the loss of Allan-Canty. In at 3, was Osman Ali who continued the momentum along side Jeffrey who was starting to feel the long day in the sun! When he fell for for a fine 86, not only had he reached 2500 BCC career runs but the feeling was the back of the run chase was broken....

How wrong those thoughts were! With a mixture of accurate bowling, good catching and indifferent shot selection had the home side under alot of undue pressure! The experience of Rupert Warren in at 9 and youthful confidence of Rahul Gupta at 8 calmed the nerves and saw the home side over the line , 7 wickets down and 2 and half overs to spare.

A great game of cricket played in good spirit! Onto next week where we travel to Sonning to play their 2nd XI.
