Match report Binfield 4s travelled to Great Missenden Pelicans CC to take on Northwood 3s on a scorching hot day.
On arrival, the slope towards one boundary and the rock hard surface suggested that it could be a run-
fest and a lot of sprinting by the fielding side would be required!
Captain Rob Carson lost the toss and Binfield were put in to field with a 44 and 41 over split to be
played.
Opening bowlers Euan Elder and Jai Goyal hit their straps from the off and restricted Northwood to a
run rate of less than 4 an over for first quarter of their innings, finishing with three maidens between
them.
Northwood finished on 182-6 after their 44 overs, six bowlers taking one wicket each with a total of six
maidens bowled throughout the innings.
A fantastic performance by the whole of the Binfield side which was full of energy throughout despite
the high temperatures.
Special mention to the tea provided by Northwood, one of the tastiest I’ve experienced and exactly
what was needed in the break!
Ian (Sid) Snelling and Dev Goyal opened the batting for Binfield, they sprinted to an opening partnership
of 73 off only 8 overs as the Northwood bowlers struggled with their line and length.
Unfortunately a contentious decision led to a premature ending for Snelling’s innings and he was
adjudged to be out LBW just one run short of his half century.
Goyal was joined at the crease by wicketkeeper-batsman extraordinaire Andy Bryant, together they
continued to build the Binfield innings by taking it past the 100 mark.
After Goyal departed for an assured 35 runs, a few wickets fell in fairly quick succession which spread
some nerves amongst the Binfield ranks.
Thankfully, youngsters Jai Goyal and Kaelin Dell were composed and on-hand to complete the run chase
with nearly ten overs to spare.
It was an impressive performance from Binfield, showing confidence and energy throughout. Once again
Binfield’s young players showed that the future of cricket at the club is bright.
Most importantly, fun was had by all and the adults grabbed the opportunity to celebrate victory and
enjoy a swift drink in the beautiful country pub next door.
